Bay Area Artist Christine So

Commissioned by Starbucks

Soon if you walk into a Starbucks anywhere, you might see one of Oakland artist Christine So's blue cyanotype prints on the wall. So has pulled this antique form of photography forward into the 21st century through her endless innovation. The results at times look like screen prints and at times abstract watercolors.

Starbucks commissioned the artist to make botanical prints of coffee trees and then bought the copyright to three of the cyanotypes for display in its stores. The original works are now part of Starbucks’ permanent collection at its headquarters in Seattle.

Christine So, born in San Francisco, is a printmaker, photographer, and painter living in the East Bay. See her works in person at Open Studios, November 12–13, 2022 at her studio at 1150 6th St., Berkeley, CA.
