Sunrise Mountains III (Unframed 18 x 23" Original Abstract Cyanotype)

$300.00

(18 x 23" Original Abstract Cyanotype on Paper)

I have named this series from 2024 "Sunrise Mountains" to distinguish it from my 2023-2023 “Faraway Hills” series. The gradually fading ridges resemble distant hills at sunrise. Many of this series are paler shades of blue than the earlier series of abstract monotypes.

Though these monotypes resemble watercolor paintings or an aquatint etchings, they are actually a form of photography called a cyanotype, photogram or sun print. What you see is a multiple-exposure lensless photograph. There are between 8-12. Each is entirely unique. These exact lines, shapes and shades of blue cannot be recreated as the exposure of the paper was heavily manipulated by me during each printing.

A traditional single-exposure cyanotype yields a white silhouette against a dark blue background. But instead of creating a white image by blocking light with solid objects on the light-sensitive paper, I used water to block the light, creating subtle gradations of darkening blue as I submerged the light-sensitive paper for different carefully timed exposures under water.]

Original monotype. Signed on the back by the artist. On 100% cotton acid-free watercolor paper. Ships in a box. Unframed.

ADD TO CART: Price already includes sales tax and free shipping to the United States.
