Fog Ridge (22 x 34" cyanotype, Artist's Proof)
22 × 34 inches. Unframed.
What is an artist’s proof? This is a test print before the perfect prints. This one is an in ch smaller since it had a flaw near the top edge and was cropped an inch shorter and and inch narrower than the rest of the official prints from this negative.
Instead of 23 × 35” it is 22 × 34”. There’s just a little less empty sky in the upper right corner.
This is a hand-printed contact photograph using the antique cyanotype process and big negatives the same size as the final print.
These iconic Monterey pines can be found all up and down the coast of northern California from San Francisco to Carmel and beyond. These are the woods in the hills of Oakland, across the bay from San Francisco. At dawn the fog can be thick transforming the world into a hushed monochromatic version of itself.
Hand-stained pure cotton watercolor paper paper, then printed by hand outdoors using natural sunlight for exposure with giant photo negatives.
Signed on the back by the artist.
