Sunrise Ridge (23 x 35" hand-printed cyanotype, unframed)

$700.00

(Watercolor paper measures 24 × 36 inches but the image is 23 × 35 with a ½ inch white border that will be covered by a mat)

At 35 x 23 inches, this is the largest size of all my foggy forest hand-printed photographs using the cyanotype process from the 1800s. The paper is 36 x 24, but the actual image is a little smaller with a blank white border. This is the largest version of the same landscape also available in multiple smaller hand-printed sizes. This is a hand-printed contact photograph using the antique cyanotype process and big negatives the same size as the final print.

These iconic Monterey pines can be found all up and down the coast of northern California from San Francisco to Carmel and beyond. These are the woods in the hills of Oakland, across the bay from San Francisco. At dawn the fog can be thick transforming the world into a hushed monochromatic version of itself.

All of my hand-printed cyanotype photographs are “contact photos”, which means that the large negative is exactly the same size as the paper that the photo is printed on because the negative is laid directly on top of the paper while it is being exposed.

The paper is a heavy 100% cotton watercolor paper. Slight variations of shades of blue exist from print to print as each sheet of paper was hand-painted with photo chemicals in the dark and printed in natural sunlight with variations in the weather and intensity of light causing some prints to be darker than others.

Ships free to the United States rolled in a tube.
